(619) 246-0678 | info@LaureenWeaver.com Born and raised in Alberta, Canada on a prairie farm from a family of nine, I loved to sit for hours watching rain storms, bright summer sunsets and cloud formations. I moved to California in 1987, drawn by the weather, and have been a resident ever since- first in southern California and in 2014 to Carmel on the Monterey Peninsula. Primarily a self taught painter, I am still fascinated by moody, cloudy and sun-filled skies as they are reminiscent of my childhood. I use a "broken brush” which is a beat up brush that probably should be thrown away but instead gives the greatest effects to my work. |

Other favorite tools are spatulas and palette knives which generate a rich affect. I especially love the color of red or combination orange/red. When someone asks me what is my favorite color: “red”, but it took me a long time to figure that out.
A lot of my art inspiration is about the everyday life and experiences of living in the community. They say a picture captures a thousand words; painting can do that and more, telling a story of the community and the people that live there. Favorite quotes: “It doesn’t matter how the paint is put on, as long as something is said.” -Jackson Pollack "If you hear a voice within you say 'you cannot paint,' then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced." -Vincent Van Gogh. “There is no such thing as a good painting about nothing.” -Mark Rothko |
